If you would like to review what we did last time, please use this link (or simply scroll down) and it will take you further down the page. Otherwise, just follow the sequence suggested.
How can using spreadsheets benefit students?
In this section, you will have to use the tool that's available on your computer and you like or would like to learn to use. For example, all MLTI Macs have Numbers - a robust application used for spreadsheets. Others might like to use MS Excel. Finally, if neither program is installed, you might try using Google Documents. You do have to have a Google account for that, but it will have very similar functions.
Explore the M&Ms packets. Decide in your group how you are going to organize the number of M&Ms by color. Is there a certain system to the color set for the entire package? Graph the results and use the graph to debate on the color selection and importance.
Next, complete this activity and explain what effect your particular color palette might have on the consumer.
Use your handout and the collection of resources on this page to find out more about spreadsheets in the classroom.
What we did on February 11, 2009
First, if you haven't set up a blog yet, we'll do it today (remember this is one of the assignments in moodle?
If you have already set up a blog, skip the following step and go to the Zoo activity.
How to set up a blog
We'll
be using Google for this particular blog. You will have to sign up,
using your Google Account and then you will post your final draft on
this blog (from the revised first draft about homework).
If you already submitted your first draft, go to the
web dropbox at drop.io (password is "emints")and retrieve it. Read comments carefully, and work to improve your essay.
Zoo Activity
Check out this website. Create a "wild self".
Use bubbl.us to create a suitable habitat for your animal. The following may be some fof the questions you might include in your web:
- where does your animal live?
- what does it eat?
- how does it procure food?
- how does it defend itself in the wild?
- Additional Questions for Discussion:
- will it survive in a zoo? Where that zoo might be?
- why did you select these features? If you could, which part would you enjoy having and why?
How can you have this activity in your classroom?
