Bridging the gapTo download videos from youtube use this little link (Get YouTube video) (just drag it to your bookmarks toolbar). If you didn't get a chance to participate in the last meeting, you will need to be filled in on what we already know. Please go to these webpages and read about constructivism. What is Constructivism? How is this theory different from the traditional classroom? What are the benefits of constructivism? 5 E's: Test and Working in Pairs Helpful sites: http://easybib.com

Computers and kids: Engaged or distracted? In mixed grade groups, do the following: Comment on the statement: Computers are great tools in the classroom. List all the things you can think of that computers add to the classroom experience for kids. Have one person write it on the poster, and another type it on the computer (we will add those notes to the Laptop wiki). Move clockwise and comment on the statement: Computers are a great distraction in the classroom. Get together based on proximity in grades, and discuss ways how to minimize distractions and keep students focused on task.
Come up with reasonable solutions and share them with the rest of the group. Use this handout (open with Adobe) for ideas and to sustain discussion. There are lots of ways to share information. For
your purposes, would a paper presentation work best? Will it be a
digital story? Will your record your voice for others to listen to?
Will you create a video interviewing the presenter or will you tape the
entire discussion? Will you want to get feedback and post it on a blog?
Will you want to make it part of your portfolio? When you are finished, let's try to post our work on the wiki.
We'll split the media between groups, so we can explore various kinds. Make sure you discuss the mode with your group and then claim one.
Helpful suggestions:
- assign one or two people to focus on the technical issues and process
- your presentation (whichever one you select) has to be clear and well-done - this should be your main focus, not the glitz of technology
- if you are recording, plan and rehearse
- for technical support, look at these:
If you don't have a blog yet, please consider setting one up. You are not required to post every day or even every week, however, consistency will help you establish a reliable venue for communication. For hosts, try Edublogs or Blogger.
